This Hidden Code Reveals Untold Riches on

Does such a hidden code really exist?
You bet. Chances are someone has used such a code on you and you
never realized it. Used properly it can unlock a great deal of
wealth stashed away in your web pages. So what is this code?
These little bits of mysterious
hieroglyphics - often smaller than this paragraph - are snippets of
testing and tracking code you can use to discover what visitors to
your website are looking for. Used properly, it can show you what
your visitors respond to best so you can boost your own sales and
profits while satisfying a greater percentage of folks coming to
your site. It all starts with a simple test...
If you are the type who freezes when
the word "test" is mentioned, don't worry. The kind of test I'll
discuss in this article is the kind you cannot fail. As a matter of
fact, the more you test the more you succeed. How can that be?
The kind of tests we'll look at today
tests your marketing methods. While these can work anywhere - I work
primarily with online tools - for today's example we'll assume
you're managing a retail store because it's easier to envision a
familiar environment. And most of us have been in a retail store at
one time or another... even in this day and age. :-)
What is testing? Testing is counting
and comparing. You count the number of people who walk through your
door and count how many walk out with a purchase. You count up your
sales every day and divide total sales by the number of people who
walked in. Then you divide sales by purchases.
The next day you change something and
count again. Day by day you keep changing and counting and
eventually some patterns will emerge. Maybe sales drop when a
certain salesperson is off. Maybe they rise whenever that part-timer
is working. Sometimes you'll try something and see no difference at
all. It happens. So what does all this have to do with your
business?
By now you're probably thinking of
ways this might work for you. Good. Even better... there's a good
chance you've already tested in one way or another. Most of us do
this naturally until we try to get "all scientific" about it. Then
we freeze up just like we did with that Calculus test. But do we
have to freeze up?
No. Just count and compare. That's
all. Just like when you sent your first email - it's all scary at
first but now? Pffff. It's nothing. So am I going anywhere with
this? Well... yes.
You see, as all this newfangled
technology horns in on our lives, some changes start swirling around
in the air. Back even before my time, guys started out writing
letters and pasting stamps on envelopes and sending them out. Then
they counted. They had to.
Back then, every stamp cost money -
not to mention the paper and so on. So unless they wanted to lose a
bundle they had to try different things and then count and
compare.
Today's technology not only got us
away from licking stamps, it also provided the tools so we don't
even have to do our own counting anymore.
We can just click a button to see how
effective our changes were. Instead of waiting weeks for results we
can see them in days, hours, or even minutes. And we can adjust our
ideas to respond to new ideas almost instantly. This is powerful
